Five Questions Worth Asking Your Pharmacist
Pharmacists are the most accessible clinicians in American healthcare, and the consultation is free. Yet most prescriptions are collected in under a minute, with no questions asked.
Ask what the medication is actually treating and what improvement should look like week by week. A clear target makes it far easier to tell progress from side effects.
Ask what to do about a missed dose, which interactions matter most, whether alcohol is genuinely off the table, and how and when treatment should end. For benzodiazepines, that last question is the most important one.
Finally, ask for the plan in writing. A one-page summary of dose, timing, cautions and review date prevents most of the confusion we see at the counter.
